The third Monday of February is approaching, which means Family Day in Canada! Although not a mandatory national holiday, most Canadians celebrate this activity-packed long weekend with great style and as an opportunity to spend more time with loved ones. British Columbia, and, of course, the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, are no different when it comes to providing fun, admission-free Family Day activities for families and people of all ages. From cross-country skiing to fishing and taking a wellness day, you can be sure to find something to your and your family’s liking on the upcoming three-day weekend supported by the Province of British Columbia.
100 Mile House: Free Ski, Snowshoe, and Skate for BC Family Day
Whether you’re already acquainted with 100 Mile House or you’ve never been there before, it’s well worth making a visit there on Family Day to enjoy the beautiful scenery and their thrilling activities such as skiing, snowshoeing, or skating. Skiing and snowshoeing are available from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at 99 Mile Ski Trails (500 Ainsworth Rd) and from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm for ice skating at South Cariboo Recreation Centre (2-175B Wrangler Way).

Ashcroft: AIB Family Winter Wellness Day
The beautiful historical village of Ashcroft doesn’t fall behind in terms of Family Day activities. Both on and off-reserve Ashcroft Indian Band members can enjoy an in-person tubing event with food vouchers and lift tickets, as well as take a well-deserved Wellness Day off!

Barkerville: Free BC Family Day Event
In addition to the events taking place throughout the province, Barkerville Historic Town & Park will be hosting its own BC Family Day event on Monday, February 19th, with free admission thanks to the support of the BC government.
Visitors will be able to join activities for all ages, including kick sled races and demonstrations at the print and blacksmith shops. Refreshments and snacks will be provided from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at The House Hotel, and, at 1:00 pm, Barkerville’s JP Winslow will present his one-person show titled “Sherlock Holmes Alone” at the Methodist Church.
Barkerville will also be offering an in-person 2-for-1 sale on annual passes for the upcoming summer season.

Cache Creek: Family Day Geocache Adventure
Cache Creek usually offers guests amazing year-round activities such as a farm market, fossil sites, historic sites, waterfalls, and parks. However, on this Family Day holiday, their wonderful community has an adventure planned for you and your loved ones! Their Geocache Adventure is a dusk-until-dawn four-day long escapade where you can download the Driftscape app, explore the village and be on the lookout for brightly coloured caches. You can sign your name and provide information about your favourite token or badge, recording the code in your passport for a chance to win!

Clinton: BC Family Day Fishing Derby & Cross Country Ski
The unique Village of Clinton, founded as a result of the Cariboo Gold Rush boom, is not short of activities catering to a wide range of interests, from history lovers to nature aficionados. On this Family Day long weekend, Clinton has not one but two BC Family Day activities! On February 17th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, make sure to enjoy cross-country skiing on the trails around the village. Then, on February 18th, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, bring your fishing gear to join the Beaver Dam Lake Family Ice Fishing Derby to catch the biggest fish!

If you’re seeking some fun games or human bubble balls to enjoy with your loved ones, look no further than Lillooet and its rugged landscape. Join the T’it’q’et BC Family Day at the P’egp’ig’lha Community Centre on February 19th for family activities. Or, if your idea of a great day is to relax surrounded by the beautiful land of the P’egp’íg’lha of the St’át’imc Nation, an Adult Spa is also offered on-site.

Quesnel: BC Family Day Swim
The vibrant community of Quesnel is home to a plethora of adventurous activities: from lakes, rivers, and mountain bike trails to golf courses and museums, the region contains something for everyone! If you’re considering adding swimming to your list of activities on Family Day, be sure to pack your best swimsuit and head to the Arts & Recreation Center. Wells: Plein Air Pastels and Painting with Peter Corbett
Getting in touch with your artistic side is easy with a Plein Air outing with Wells-Local artist Peter Corbett. This Family Day weekend workshop is at pre-registration capacity, but you’re free to try your luck at the door. Otherwise, you can just join them on a walkabout and get to know a little bit of the charming small town of Wells.

Williams Lake: Family Day Weekend
Perfect for nature lovers, adventure-seekers, and wildlife sightings, Williams Lake is the largest city in the region and is considered “the Hub of the Cariboo,” ensuring there’s no shortage of activities to keep you entertained. On February 18th from 12:00 pm to 3:30 pm, why not include the “Bring the Fam Rail Jam” in your Family Day lineup? Bring your relatives and explore the area while skiers, snowboarders, and spectators showcase their skills. If you need some downtime, enjoy prizes and grab a pizza slice, or warm up with coffee and hot chocolate. Alternatively, on February 19th, you can experience free entry to the Recreation Complex if your interests are skating, swimming, and fitness center activities.
